How it all began...

In 1981, the Wapello FFA members and their advisor, Ron Stover, took a big step to bring bucking broncs and beefed-up bulls to their hometown.  FFA members worked hard to get it all together, even building gates in class to make the arena and then selling them to farmers for fundraising.   The Chief Wapello Days Rodeo has been going strong ever since.  While at the show, you may hear mention of The Scott Keltner Memorial All-Round Cowboy Buckle.  This is named in honor of a previous Wapello FFA Member who lost his life traveling from a rodeo.  In 2008, the George Gerst Memorial Fast Time Award was also added.  George and his family have been long time supporters of the Wapello Rodeo and the western lifestyle.
Our previously amateur-sanctioned rodeo has grown throughout its 28 years, and was awarded the IRCA
“Most Improved Rodeo” title for 2008.  In 2009, the FFA members and advisor, Irv Meier, held true
to their motto: Step up and step out.  Just as their parents and other FFA members before them, they have took the challenge to make the show better than ever before.  With only months to go, they made a major leap and
received Pro Rodeo status with the support of their community.

The current Wapello FFA Chapter continues to work hard on not only providing the best in entertainment to Louisa County, but also to create a Community Center to be used by all.  Their Five Year Plan includes developing the park into a multi-use recreational area; including baseball diamonds, a covered arena, outdoor track and much more.

The 2009 Wapello FFA PRCA Rodeo was recognized nationally as the Best New Rodeo of the PRCA Great Lakes Circuit.  Come and see what all the buzz is about at the 2011 Wapello FFA PRCA Rodeo!

Also, coming soon: the new
schedule to see the full listing of local events and great things happening during Chief Wapello Days!
