The Wapello Rodeo has been revved up and revamped! There are a lot of new and exciting things happening at this year’s show. Miss Wapello Rodeo 2011 Kate Neil


 

Kate is the 19 year daughter of Dave and Jane Neil of New London. She is a student at Iowa Central Community College and plans to go on to Texas A&M University to study Environmental Engineering. She is involved in the Rodeo team at Iowa Central, NBHA, student senate, and Green Club. She enjoys riding horses and swimming.

 

 














Miss Teen Wapello Rodeo 2011 Ivy Weirather
 
Ivy is the 15 year old daughter of Teresa Potter and Jeff Weirather. She is a student at Central Lee High School. She is involved in the Central Lee Dance Team and volunteers at the Spotted Zebra Daycare. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her horse and barrel racing. She hopes to someday become a veterinarian and major in Equine Science.

Wapello FFA PRCA Rodeo Queen Pageant



Welcome to RODEO, where Cowgirls reign supreme! Have fun and show us your cowgirl skills. Wapello would love to have cowgirls at all levels competing in our friendly, no pressure atmosphere; making new friends, and just enjoying themselves! Have entries turned in by June 30th with a $25 entry fee. Orientation is at the Louisa County Extension Office on June 30th at 6:00pm.

Barrel Racing

Saddle up- Turn and burn! This is an "open" event each night starting at 6:00 pm for the local contestants to enter.  There are two divisions: 15 and under and 16 and over. To enter you must pay regular admission, plus $20 per entrant to go for the purse.  There's a limit of 20 entrants per night. To register contact Janette Savage at 73jsavage@gmail.com and specifying it as your Barrel Racing Registration including: name, age, and night of riding. All participants must fill out a waiver and turn it in to the registration table before riding. On Saturday night, preference will be given to those who didn't ride Friday.

Mutton Bustin

Alright kids- you ready to break some outlaw sheep? Hold on tight and get the longest ride to win!  Riding at 5:00 pm each night, kids can sign up to test their buckaroo skills starting at 4:30 pm. On Saturday night, preference will be given to those who didn't ride Friday. Must be 8 years old or younger, and accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults and riders must pay regular admission. All participants must have a waiver filled out and to the registration desk before riding.

Pit Parking

If you'd like to park on the grounds next to all the action, stop by the Wapello Superintendent's Office to buy passes.  Passes must be presented at the gate, and bought by Wed July 15th. One night costs $15 and both costs $25.  Pit parking is marked on the Grounds Map below. Once the amount of spaces available are determined, a lottery with your pass numbers will be drawn, for as many vehichles as possible, to be ringside.


"Urban Cowboy" Mechanical Bull Riding Competition!

Have dreams of wearing colorful, fringy chaps and a big brimmed hat? Don’t worry Cowboys and Cowgirls—you don’t have to have a Pro card to ride this beast! Take a spin on the Mechanical Bull and see how long you last. Cowboy Up and get to spurring, but watch out-- it can get more rank than the real thing!
Age group:  13 – 18 
Cost:  $5 entry fee per person, pay back 50% of entry money brought in back to top 5 places  Limited: to 50 riders, preregistration encouraged.  Check in starts at 1:15pm  Starts:  promptly at 2pm
Bracketed contest:  Starts with 50 people, top 20 come back to ride again, out of those people, top 10 go into the finals.  If you are not there when you name is called, you forfeit the competition.



Sand Volleyball Tournament

Do you think you've got what it takes? Battle it out in the sand pits for bragging rights and the winning team takes all prize!
So hit the gym and start forming your teams now! There are two age groups: 13-18, 19 & older. Check-in begins at 12:30pm on Saturday at the Southeast corner of the fairgrounds. Competition starts at 1:00 pm. Double elimination bracket, no rain date & money will be refunded. It's $2.00 a person, with
2-6 people to a team.

 

Teen Grounds Games

Looking for something to do before the rodeo? On Saturday, enjoy yard games and a water balloon fight hosted at the rodeo grounds. It's totally free for a fun-filled day! Forget just walking around town and looking for something to do, we have it all!

Games: Ladderball, Horseshoes, Cornhole (bags), Badminton, Croquet, Watermelon Eating Contest, and Frozen T-shirt Contest.
